Central America Budget

After four months in Central America, I spent a total of $3,692.21. The total probably would have been cheaper had I not chosen to stay so far away from Guatemala City in my last week in the country. The taxi fares averaged about $45 (Q360) for round trip. Along with the distance, I also had to replace my Mac charger, which added another $99 (Q792) to that total. Subtracting the final week in Central America, I spent $3,072.20. So, if you do visit Guatemala City, make sure to stay in Zone 1 or Zone 2, or expect to make your budget about $40 (Q320) a day if you decide to stay in Zone 10 or elsewhere.

Here’s how I spent my money over the last four months. I’m excluding my flight to Belize and my flight from Guatemala.
