Day Trip to Lake Tahoe
Video Note: To skip to Lake Tahoe, go to 2:56.
One of the joys of living in Sacramento is that I’m two hours away from Lake Tahoe. Although smoke did impact the lake at times during the course of the month-long battle against the King Fire, a spokesperson for the Eldorado National Forest said the fire is 100 percent contained as of today. However, victims of the King Fire are still in need of assistance. You can donate to the Red Cross if you would like.
The journey to Tahoe didn’t take as long as I expected. The only snag was a traffic jam due to construction on U.S. 50 close to the lake, but within a half hour, I was parked and hitting the beach. The water is fairly cold even in the summer (65 to 70-degrees Fahrenheit according to the U.S. Geological Survey). Be prepared!
Food is a five minute drive into South Lake Tahoe from the beach, and if you want to gamble, it’s about a 10-minute drive into Stateline, Nevada. However, the highlight of the trip for me was the hiking. There are at least 15 trails for you to choose from on the south side of the lake. I was able to get some decent shots of sunset after hiking for about 10 minutes on the Tahoe Rim Trail.
